Unhappy Headlight problem: City lights don't work (low and high beam do)

for some reason my city lights don't work.

if i put the headlights on to that setting (the first click on the headlight control) all the headlights stay blank even though the dash lights work fine.

if i put the headlight control on the second setting (low beam) that works fine, as well as if i pull back the indicator stick for high beam.

what could this be?

thanks to cruzin 323i, i check the wiring and that seems fine. the bulbs are ok too, same as the fuses.

how do the city lights work? is a smaller wattage or current passed through the bulbs? i assume it must be as when on high beam the bulbs light up fully

please help!!!

Yes, you need 5W bulbs in the sockets within the same enclosure as the high beams.

you need to splice them to you orange corner parking lights.

they come on with the parking lights..
there are three wires leaving the parking light bulb.

1. one is brown (don't touch that)

2. second is some color (say color A) this wire may or may not be the same color as the wire leaving the fender turnsignal. if color A is the same as the fender bulb's wire then don't touch it.

3. third wire is some color (say color B) if this wire in NOT the same as the color wire leaving the fender light then this is your powerwire for the parking light. Splice your citylights power wire with this wire and you're set. B)
