Headlight Issues

I am having problems with my headlights staying on after I turn the switch off. I have daytime running lights on a 1996 318is, and I am not sure if it is the light switch or daytime running light module. Sometimes the highbeams will work, sometimes they won't. Has anyone run into a problem like this?

I am having the same problem. See the atached pic.

Open your fuse box behind the driver side shock tower (under hood). I've highlighted the green relay, this is probably your problem.

To verify, start your car, turn on the lights, Turn off your car and turn off the lights... if they stay on, tap the relay I've highlighted with the back end of a screwdriver (not too hard). The lights should go off.

Solution... replace it... I'm going today to pick mine up.

I tried tapping the relay a few times and every time it worked. Thank you very much for your help!! I will order new one today

It probably is... the winters up here are very cold, very dry and depending on where you live the road crews use rock salt to help drivers keep traction... the calcium wreaks havoc on everything electrical... not to mention your paint... the relays do fail with time... mine failed after ten years and of all days for it to fail... the day I bought her...
