I was wonderin if anyone had thier engine replaced, or known people who do it tin ther bmw's once its life is up. The reason I ask is because I have a 1995 325is, with 130k miles...yeah its a good amount, and would love to put some money into to make it look nice and run well (Wheels, Spoiller, springs, intake, etc)...but only if i will have the car for a goood amount of time.
Anywyas how much money would it be, who can do it for you, and could i put something like an M3 engine in it in the future, or a better performance engine?
Yes, it can be done. Yes, you can put an M3 engine in. Furious did it. You would just have to find a place that you trust in your area that will do it.
However, that is not something about which you need to be thinking any time soon. Your car is a child. 130,000 miles is not much for an M52 engine -- any BMW engine for that matter.
I would say, come back and talk to us about that once you get some miles on your car.
I am rolling into 173k within a few days, and probably won't change vehicles until I hit 225k or five years go by. I say 225k not because the engine will need to be replaced by then, but because I like the number.
BMW engines will run well for a very long time if proper care is given to them.
Use your money for mods, or to pay for school, take girls out, gamble, give to the poor, save, or something else right now -- you will not be needing a new engine in the near future.
Oh, and prices vary, I am not sure about figures.... someone else will surely fill you on that.

Wow Drz, you really made me feel a hell of a lot better. I have a 96 328 and it has 113,00 it, and I often think about when it will need a rebuild or a new engine. But you saying 130,000 is only a child makes me feel better, just got to keep up on oil changes, and regular tune ups I guess.
Anyways how much would a m3 engine run, granted you COULD find one used?
As said above, these cars are not chevy's. They can go well in the 200K range and even further. If you want the extra power for the S50 engine you can get one used between 80K-110K miles on it for $3000.
That's a site that has rebuilt BMW engines. A rebuilt '96 M3 engine will cost you around $5500 from there.
yeah rip off haha theres a place here in washington that will get you the engine install it etc all for 5500, 6500 if you want them to put in schrick cam shafts etc... i might have a friend do mine with me though.. he just did his cousins b16 swap in his civic, and did his own wrx motor swap into a 98 2.5rs... pretty good with cars!! either way m3 swap is the way to go!
I finally comitted. The S50 from the M3 to the left, is going in my 95 318i. In fact, the whole drivetrain, brakes, suspension, etc. is going in. Vaders too. Just need to find some rear seats from an M3 sedan. Gotta get almost the entire interior in black too. And nothing is staying stock either. Not doing much with the brakes yet, just some cross-drilled zimmermans and stuff. Need to save up for the big brake kit eventually. But first, I'm gonna rebuild and upgrade the engine. Any ideas?
I've done an engine swap. But you have 130k miles which is nothing as long as it's still running good and has been taken care of. My swap cost me about 2200 total to a 328i engine with obd1 conversion, m3 cams and chip.

No I did this myself with my mechanic friend. Bought the engine on ebay, picked it up and planted it in the car :P I am going to do a euro swap next year though after I get hitched. It's my wedding present from my GF :P Euro M3 Engine with AA Tuning Turbo...
