I am considering one of these and would like some information on whether or not I should proceed with a purchase. With a cold air intake it should not really matter who it is made by. What I am more curious about is the fit...
LOL, sure does. Really, I am mostly concerned with the mounting hardware. I will be purchasing a better filter than the one being sold. I figured that I can save money on the mounting parts. I would never use that filter on my car!
Ok, if you look at a Cold Air Intake it is called that because it doesn't take the air from the engine bay(thus getting cooler air). They do this by either running the intake down by the fog light or running it to the front and sealing it off from the engine bay. The intake you are looking at does neither of these things. If you read it carefully they never call it a Cold air intake anywhere. The pipe is so short that I am not really sure where the space for the thing would be.
this is a similar recent post. Just scroll down and read what 97alpinem3 has to say, he points out some of the differences. I personally would spend the money on an ecis intake or a conforti one.

ok, no offense, but that intake sucks! Why?? It's way too short, it would ONLY be good if you had a good heat shield, bcs if you put that one in, it won't be much of a cold air intake since it will be getting it's air from very close to the engine (aka VERY HOT AIR). SO, unless you get a dinan style one (one that goes down the bumper), or unless if you get a short ram air one with a heat shield, it's not gonna be a cold air intake.

yeah, its called a Cosmos and its badass. Only 129 plus shipping. Nothing against the intake but that is as cheap as I will go on my car. Dude, stay away from that pep boys contraption. I'd much rather have my stock airbox in than that little pos
im sorry, but there is no way that it will last if its 12$. i know cost isnt a factor of reliability, but almost 99% of the time you get what you pay for. thats why conforti's are like 200 or whatever they are.
A lot of good points! Thanks for pointing out all of the things to consider for this. The point of getting one of these is for a HP increase and it makes sense that having it too close to the engine can reduce the gain I seek.

From what I have heard the hp increase is at most like 8hp but more likely 3-4hp, so not a huge improvement. You will hear a different sound though from the engine. You can still find cheap intakes if that is what you are looking for, you just have to make sure it has some way of sealing itself off from the engine bay hot air.
In all honesty, I have a cosmoSracing intake and I love it, it soudns great, you feel the little gain of hp I'd say after 3-4k rpm.. and since it's 3.5", it doesn't give you that cheesy squeacky noise, it sounds beasty.

that is the worst intake i have ever seen haha, it would work alright maybe.. if you bought an aa or ecis heat shield and upgraded the filter. even then who knows how well the piping is made.. spend the money!
