I just found a Nokia phone that fits into my hands-free cell phone bracket in my '97 328i.
There is a mic on the roof panel, and the phone shows "car" and plenty of signal. The phone works fine.
Here's the problem, when I make a call, I thought it was supposed to automatically cut out the radio and bring in the phone signal to the stereo speakers. It doesn't. The phone works, it will call, but I can't hear anything through anything other than the phone iteslf.
Does anyone have a hands free install? Is there a special frequency I have to dial in on the radio to hear the cell phone?
I don't know how the factory one works, but most have to have a little mic that pics up the sound from the earbud, and then replays it thru the stereo.

It's the mic for the driver. When you talk, it goes through that. WHat you will need, it sounds like, is the mike that goes over the earpiece on the phone. SOme phone will just play the audio through the car phone bracket, but yours sounds like you need the mic attachment.
It should go striaght to the phone cradle thing. If that doesn't work, I assume going to a dealer and asking would help solve the riddle. Was there a phone installed on the car when it was purchased?
