grinding noise on start up

i think my starter motor is on its way out. (it must be the starter motor?) i get a loud grinding noise when i turn the key..it starts but sounds terrible.
i want to replace it and wouldnt mind giving it a go myself...does anyone know how hard/easy it will be and how to do it? i have a 98' 328 sport
can anyone help?

it's a bitch, there's two bolts that are ridiculously hard to get. Ask me how I know. Pretty sure there's a diy on pelicanparts.com.
