today i replaced my bushings on my 328is, i went ahead and got m3 bushings just for the hell of it. i replaced them because my steering wheel was vibrating. BUT, when we put my car on the lift to replace the bushings we found out that my front wheel was bent So after the bushings were replaced my steering wheel still vibrates but not as bad. Anyways the m3 bushings feel awsome, steering seems much more crisp than before so on one hand im happy but on the other im not because now i have to worry about fixing the bent wheel.

Question: Does a wheel that is being repaired, because it is bent, have to be re-painted? Becuase my brother had one repaired and it never looked the same as the others, instead of gunmetal it looked almost grayish green, and he had them repaired through the dealership, not some cheapy hole in the wall place.

if they re bend the rim, then YES... it needs to be repainted... and they will never look the same, as your brothers looks like... your rims are 18" replicas right?? just go to aaarims.com or thewheelexchange.com and pick up a new 1 for 200 bucks... its not worth the hassle for paying 80 bucks to bang out a dent, then to repaint it....

yes they are replicas, that seems to be the best idea, but even if they are bent on the inside of the wheel does the front have to be repainted?

I too have a steering wheel that shakes for weird reasons.

It's fine now, but it started vibrating one day...I believe I hit a bump and it might of damaged the steering rack. Replaced that...shaking goes away.

Then we bought 2 new shoes for the front. Some Falken Azenis ST115, which are quite good from what I've been through (though never really tested in good rain yet...), then the steering started to vibrate again. So wtf! Balance the wheels again and it's fine, just like that. I was kinda pissed that the exact same thing was happening even with a new steering gear in....

Btw, can I visually tell if my bushings are in need of a replacement?

thanks.

Becuase when a good shop straightens the wheel, they have to heat it. and heating the wheel often cuases the paint to burn off..

it depends on where they are gunna rebend it from... if it is visable to thew eye, then it needs to be painted, but the inside of the rim does need to be painted!!

i replaced the upper control arm bushings.

the inside is bent (on the lift i spun the wheel and could tell it was bent when looking from under my car), but when they heat the wheel up i think it still affects the paint on the front of the wheel, thus causing it to have to be repainted

its holds air fine, its just realy annoying when your whole body is shaking when your going over 60 because of the steering wheel vibrating like crazy. Most likely i will just put the wheel in the rear and not worry about it
