Some guy selling a White BMW, 1992 318 coupe, with 88k miles to me for 5.5k. Exterior looks alright, some chips and some damage to bumper, nothing major. Is this a good deal?
NO. It is worth about 3,600. You can then add in the CD player and the chip or whatever but no way is it work more than 4,500. That chip is complete BS by the way. You'd have to have a lot of mods in order for the chip to increase HP by 25.
Low milage has intrinsic value, imo. 88k miles for a 12 yr old car is very low. ~7 k miles per year? That's very low, and should factor in to better resale value. How much, however, is another question. I personally value my '95 mustang about 2,000 CDN more than the going rate due to it's low milage... (52k kms) It's for sale, btw.
If that milage is true, then it may be a good deal. The early E36s however, have other issues.
The average miles per year experienced by most cars is 12,000-15,000, this is what I go off to see how much a car has been driven. True, that car does have low miles for the year, but I am sure KBB would account for low miles, high age.
