Hey guys, im going to buy a 98 323is with 50K for 10 grand. Car fax checks out that everything is ok. The only thing is that the last milegae recorded was 36K. Should i be suspicous?
I'm assuming the 36k is the last time is the mileage was recorded, which would be during an inspection. So that probably just means that the previous owner drove it more since that inspection and hasn't gotten one since. Now if the mileage recorded was 136k then you should be worried, lol.
ok, i went to look at it. the door locks(central locking) do not work when the car is off. The Stealership tells me thats how their supposed to be. I think their full of shit honestly. I noticed the door will open withthe car off if you pull the handle twice. however the passenger side door will not do the same, the door lock on that side pops up and then goes back down, so it is impossible for the passenger to get out of the car without the ignition or accessories being on! How much will this cost to fix? Is the stealer correct when he says the power locks shouldn't work when the car is off?
P.S. Does the 98 323is have a vacum lock system, or is it more of a normal type like in my current chevy?

i have a 98 323is, they are exactly right, funny story :
i went to the mall with this chick and i got out she was doing something in the passenger seat, i locked it from my side and i ran inside because it was cold, then she calls my cell and is like i can't get out of the car, i'm like wow what a dumb bitch, i tell her to push the button and she's like it's not working i can't get out and got pissed at me so, i have to run back out to car in the cold, and i'm laughing my ass of and i let her out, so yeah they're correct when they say that,
i'd say go for it that's a very good deal, i bought my car with 106k miles last year for 7k, they originally wanted 10k but we got them down, there was one previous owner and it was some lady who commuted to pittsburgh everyday so it had a lot of highway miles but ran perfect and the interior was in mint condition, if everything checks out go for it
better off getting a 325 or 328 if you want to mod it at all..
a little more money and you could be in a very nice M3 too..
135mph bitch lol
323's are not slow, they are 168hp beasts, don't let him discourage you, i still have A LOT of fun in mine, and the only reason it's so low is because of obd-11, with a few minor mods you can easily open up the power,
Hahaha, thanks guys! I just wanted to make sure nobody at the stealer was lying to me. The door locks not working when the car is off isn't a big deal but the still need to fix the passenger side lock though. When the car is off and the door is locked, your supposed to be able to pull the handle once and the door will unlock, then again to get out. Well on this car, you pull the handle out, the thing goes up, and then when you release the handle it goes back down! It never stays up! I had the sales guy locked in the car! He had to ask me to let him out! It was awesome! Anyway, anyone ever had this problem? I did a search and couldn't find any info on it. How much would it cost to fix? Is it a DIY for someone with medium mechanical experience?
