Girl with 1994 316i auto problem

Well 2 actually.
I have engine vibration between 3500-4000rpm even when in nuetral. Can be felt through the steering and pedals though no vibration in lower or higher rpm.
Also fan belt squealing. Its dry and understand its self adjusting so not sure what it could be.

How new it the belt? seems like it will need replacment... BUT the tensioner might need replacment.... replace the belt then if that doesn't solve it the tension will need replacment... you sure it's the belt and not the water pump just want to be sure

the vibration could be a bad engine mount or even 1 of ur exhaust rubbers has callapsed or something.

get someone to put the car in 1st gear with the handbrake on and release the clutch at biting point quikly (no more than biteing point tho) if the engine has alot more movement than normal chances are its an engine mount.

as for the exhaust really u needto jack it up and check the exhaust is positioned right on all its rubber mounts.

Miss Thing, your vibration could be from many things...I read someone told you a bad engine mount which could be the case, but the usual culprit is the rubber doughnut stabilizer that is around the drive shaft. It mounts to the unibody and keeps the vibration down (hmmm). The rubber always blows out and gets rotted. There is also a rubber disk that mounts between your driveshaft and the tranny which can blow out as well(it is called a universal joint). have your mechanic check these out, but don't ever let someone take advantage of you because you are cute! They seem to do that.
