I'm getting a 13lbs CF hood next week. It's relatively good quality, not MAShaw quality, but much better than what I see on Honda civics and preludes out there. The frame of the hood looks like it's stuck together with epoxy, I'm wondering if hood pins will be required. I've been told that without the use of hood pins the CF could actually seperate from the frame and fly off from the latches. Also, I've noticed that nobody can seem to use the stock hood shocks with the CF hoods, even the MAShaw, is this to save weight or is there a problem with the mounting? The hoods have to be held up with a stick or a pole. I don't want to be flying around on the track at 180+km/h and have the hood smack me in the face.
Anyways, any experiences with mounting CF hoods would be appreciated.
It's the same hood in this picture, but this is from my friends euro spec 2dr M3, mine is for a 4 door. By the way, this 2dr hood is for sale if anyone wants it.
Thanks,
Bry

U can't use bonnet shocks with a CF hood because the hood's too flexible. They can twist an crack wen ur tryin to close em, or jus snap the shock mounts right off. Would say bonnet pins r a good idea tho, specially ir ur gonna b usin it on a track...

Are you a mechanic? I'm just curious because you seem to be filled with lots of useful information Thanks.
Anyways, I'm avoiding using the hood pins because first of all, I don't really like drilling into CF. Secondly, it's pretty much illegal for the street and you'll become a cop target immediately. Lets just hope that epoxy holds. I was considering painting the CF bonnet to avoid attracting too much attention. I'll be getting the rear boot lid in CF soon as well
Any other information on helping to secure the hood would help. I'm going over to this guy's house tonight to get some snap shots of the under side of the bonnet. Hopefully that will shed some light into what I need reinforced.

He barely drives his car, so I'm not sure just how safe the way he mounted it was. Also, he isn't using the hood shocks. I'm more interested in the reinforcements for the hood. I don't want the thing to fall apart on me.
How well does silicon stick to CF?

Thanks I apprecaite it. I noticed his hood was a bit floppy and very flexable. Would it help to patch some extra layers of fiberglass under the hood? I have a lot of experience with fiberglass.
thanks,
Bry

It could help to stiffen it up a bit, u dont wanna go too mad with it tho or it'll end up heavier than the stock hood, but its a good idea... If u strengthen it enough and keep the weight down u could always look around for a less powerful set of shocks to lift the hood if u can work out a way of fixing on the mounts...
