Gearbox Syncro

Umm i think my syncro in my 3rd gear may be whacked :P
If im pushing my car hard i cannot slam it into 3rd or it will grind, every other gear loves it..
At low revs its easier to throw it in..

Im running a 318i e36 4.1 dif with a m roadster shortshifter "slightly modified to fit"

First question is, the syncro would be the only thing causing this right??
Secondly, how big of a job is fixing it

The synchro honestly is not worth fixing. You'll have to remove the tranny, and basically completely disassemble it. If you have the knowledge, ability and equipment to do it, then it might be worth it. But any honest mechanic will tell you to live with it until more problems show up then simply replace the tranny. It is not cost effective to pay someone to do it. If it's worth a weekend of your time to do it, then go for it.

Time for a 6 speed?

6 speed would be nice with the dif im running.
Im making the most of my 318i, but a 6th gear is needed im talking 105mph max then im red lining, but i must say it gets there with no trouble at all, so a 6 speed would be alot more fuel efficient

yeah but I think it costs about 10k to do the 6 speed conversion. The last kit that I saw that did not include the transmission I want to say was some where between 4-6k and then the tranny... Not something I want to think about. But yes it would be very awesome.
