just wondering if i could put mid-grade gas in my 93 325i and not have any problems. i know this may be a stupid ?, but i live in so cal and premium gas is getting a tad PRICEY.... just wondering if it is good for the engine to run something a little less.....um.......good?
Ive been running 87 since I bought my car 2 years ago and still runs great. The one time I did fill up with premium there was absolutely no difference.
tell me about it i paid 3.15$ per gallon for mid grade today... dont seem to notice any pinging as of yet
it wont ping, its a BMW and the computer will adjust it accordingly, but you will lose power and gas mileage

yes because the computer is designed to adjust the A/F ratio/timing to make up for the engine running improperly due to the wrong octane fuel...if you want it to run PROPERLY then put 91+ in there...

Use 91. gotKRAUT covered it pretty well: the engine management system will compensate for the lower grade fuel, but you will lose power and FUEL EFFICIENCY. Seriously, it is not that much more for premium. Proper maintenance and use of yoru car will save you money in the long run.

lets put it this way... if your gonna drive a bimmer why not use all that it gives out and use premium?? in the long run you only spend a couple extra bucks... lets round off and say you have a 20 gallon tank (bimmers actually have a 17 gallon tank) the difference between regular and preminum is 20 cents... so thats 20 cents more to every gallon and you have a 20 gallon tank (just an example) then you are really only spending....
20 gallons * .20 is 4...
you are going to spend 4 more dollars by going to 91 then if yuo went regular... just drink one less coffee from starbucks everytime you fill up and your covered...
i dont see why soo many people complain about the difference...
ps. since we have 17 gallon tanks that means were only spending 3.40 more a tank...
