Gas System Seals... - BMW Forum

Any one know what the symptoms are for a Gas system leak? Sometimes when I start my car I hear a gurgling sound and it sounds as if the tank has a broken seal. Help is appreciated!

I don't remember very well but I think you can smell the gasoline from inside the car, although that could be the fuel pump seal.
The tank is underneith the rear passenger seat.

You may need to give us more info on the problem, does the ENGINE make this noise? or what?

Yup, I can smell fuel in the car, and no the engine doesnt make the noise, it seems as if its the gas tank or rearward area of my car!

The sound lasts for about 5-10 seconds, then it goes away.

I'm betting seals or the fuel pump.
I don't really know though, sorry.

Yep, mine did that and plus my tank would leak, not good. My old mechanic used a heater hose instead of the correct hose for the gas line. Basically it was made out of the wrong type of plastic which hardened and cracked. I won't be going to him anymore. If you can smell gas inside the car you have a definite problem.
