Full Service

[Deloriant]

Just got a completely full service for my e36, total price came to $1060. I don't remember who it was, but someone was inquiring about a servicing on their BMW, so here's a list of the things they did:

- New oil filter
- New interior filter
- New spark plugs
- New micron filter
- New synthetic oil
- New oil in the front and back of car
- Carb/Injection cleaner
- New Coolant
- New fan belt
- New serp fan belt

That was the parts, here is the labor:

- Full service inspection - $495
- Replacing all oil filters and oil types
- All new transmission fluids with synthetic
- All misc. fluids/tires/lights etc

- Drain and refill - $88
- Radiator fluid
- Engine block fluids

- Hose inspection, belts, pressure of cooling system check
- Removal and replacement of serpentine fan drive belt
- Tightened catlyctic converter w/ heatsheild
- Misc. ecu coding, dash lights, etc.

Looks like parts came to $361.87 and labor came to $665.78 @ $82 an hour.


Soon I'm gonna need:

- Rear brakes
- Brake fluid hydraulic circuit flush
- Power steering hoses
- Radiator Replacment

And thanks to Kev, I had them check out the guibo, they said it looks great!

tell me your doing the brakes yourself, they charge outragiously for brakes, and they only take 45 mins to do..

you can bleed/flush them yourself too.. get a buddy and have him pump the brakes while you hold a bucket under the bleeding valve type thingy, im not sure though, doing that to flush the entire system may be bad. you can do it yourself with a 30 dolla vaccum pump too.

rotors - 50 bucks a peice
pads - 30 bucks
grease - 2 bucks
brake fluid - 10 bucks?

142 bucks is the total, better than the 400-500 the dealer would charge you.

OH SHIT!!!! A grand for the full service... *gulp* haven't had to do one of those yet! Can you get away with buying the shop manual and doing it all yourself? I can think of alot of other things to do with a grand! Like pay rent, cover the bills, or drink myself under the table!

i dont expect everyone to be mechanically inclined, some dont care to learn, some people dont have the manual dexterity and some just are way too lazy (lazy meaning just cant learn) to understand the basic principles of mechanics.
if you can learn to do most of the stuff yourself , you will save yourself money, the sole principle of this forum was to save people like you and me money and appreciate the cars we drive...... with that said, checking the FAQ forum for excellent info on how to do your own maintainace , and some of the members on here have excellent tips on how to make your budget work as well as space and time managment work as well.

well i have done both inspections on my dads z3 so i am pretty full confident. and my girlfriend always loves watching me work on cars she says it makes me look alot manlier and incredibly irresistable soo, thats worth it alone

dude you got ripped off cause over the past 3 weeks i changed all those things except the belts and i didnt pay anything close to a grand i changed everything myself solely from reading this bmw website its not hard to do yourself you just gotta have patience and good instructions and now i know how to do it so ill never be spending that money on fixing my car thank god thats just stupid that coulda bought a big screen

hey
thanks for the list deloriant, i was the one asking about it earlier.
so this is what i was thinking, out of this list i have got like more then 50% of them done in the last 3 months, i think my service should be coming up in 5-6K more miles or so. Out of the ones that are in red are there ones that I will have to take to the dealer and will find it hard to do, again I am a novice who has just begun working on my car (so far done debaffle-sharking-exhaust).

I've got mine done to, but it's in the Netherlands

It containted: 4L of oil
new oilfilter
4 new sparks
2 V-Belts (or how do you call those?)
The 4 round things where these belts run over
1.5L Raincleaner

For the price of 120 euro's

This also contains a waige of 15 euro's/hour...
And no it's not the official BMW, but original parts installed by my mechanic (were I also bought the car).

My car has almost run 275.000KM's now and is still in perfect condition! B)
