When starting my car recently there is a VERY strong smell of petrol coming through the air vents. It only happens at the first start up of the day, after that it seems to be fine. Anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be? Anything obvious that I could check under the bonnet? Thanks, Ben.
Hey, mine has that too! I never really thought about it too much.. but I just got it smoged a week ago, and it passed but... there's too much unused gas sneaking out of it! I don't know what it could be, someone mentioned that my oxygen sensors could be off... Have you had it smoged recently?
Check the fuel lines and the hose clamps for your rubber fuel lines under the hood. Check both feed and return and also fuel pressure regulator. Tehse hose clamps have a tendency over time to become loose.
Your catalytic converter, and the whole motor in general hasn't warmed up yet. A little bit of unburned hydrocarbons are going to sneak out, and especially if you are inside of a garage, you are going to smell it. If it goes away after a few seconds as the car begins to warm up, you're ok.
its ok, my brain only works part-time. im a student and i cant pay it enough to go full-time.
so your from north county huh?
like.....ESCONDIDO and RANCHO BERNARDO???????! i grew up there, but the most time was in Temecula. my cousin and i sold our house in Escondido last year and i moved here for school.
