Fuel Pump Change??

I have a 92 325i with about 170k, I dont think the fuel pump has ever been changed on the car, I'm getting ready to take a bit of a road trip in the coming months and I was wondering if I should have the fuel pump changed out?

Whats the life on those things?, is it even something I should be worrying about? or should I just wait for it to fail or endure the expense of changing it out now.

I dont want to be left stranded on the side of the road/somewhere, but I dont want to make unecessary changes $$ either.

Are you sure its still the one from the factory? If it is this is the longest lasting Ive seen. Go to a shop and have them check it out. If the psi is low change it out. Its pretty simple. There is a good article on pelican parts how to do it.
