U tank prolly has a small crack on the upper side thats why when its full, it comes out, dont worry about it too much, just dont fill the tank up all the way or get it fixed before the winter comes up as u dont want moisture to collect inside the tank.

good luck and hope everything works out

does getting this fixed entail buying a new fuel tank, or having it patched? (the crack that is)

OK... hold your horses! You never said where it was leaking from. Why would the top of the tank all of the sudden develope a crack? It's not as if it sees alot of action or something. If it is leaking from that area I'd say it's more likely that you have a bad hose or something. Where is it leaking?

It is leaking right by the rear passenger's side tire- next to the gas tank
but like i said it only leaks right after i fill the tank up... for maybe 1/2 gallon's worth of gas but the car reeks of gas for maybe a day afterward

Rite now just dont fill it up all the way and have it checked by a mechanic where the leak is.

good luck

same car, same problem, although mine happens on & off

I'm gonna take it to BMW and get them to check it, i'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fuel lines
