Yes you can replace just the synchro(s) in the tranny. Do you have a place to pull the tranny yourself? Call around to some indy tranny shops and see if they are familiar with the Getrag manual tranny from your BMW. Tell them what it's doing and get their recommendation. You'll save some money if you can pull the tranny yourself, but if its not worth it to you just let the shop do it. How's your clutch? Good time to replace that too while your at it.

: My bmw keeps falling apart on me and im just about ready to dump it on some other poor bastard. My door handle riped off the other day when i went to exit my vehical after picking it up from the auto body shop after getting my drivers side window fixed for the 5th time! My car pops out of first gear so often now that its almost not safe to pull out onto a main road. everyone keeps telling my i have a bad "sincro? Is this a commen thing?
