Fog Lights

hello guys. I just recently bought a 92 316i and the car didnt come with factory foglights. I just want to know if I can install a set of fogs myself and if the car is prewired or not since I'm not good at electronics. Will somebody please help me install them? has anyone of you done it before and if possible post some pics of the install? thanks a million.

i dont think all of the cars were prewired. However, installation is not that difficult.

thanks for the help guys. I've figred it out how to install my foglights, however i'm not sure what color the wire for my side lamps in the headlight switch is coz i'm planning to connect the fog light switch to it just so that the fogs can only be switched on if the side lamps or park lights whatever you call it are on. used

First off, let me warn you that I'm new here and new to BMWs. I've only owned my 95-318ti for about 3 months now.
Anyway, my 318ti also did not come with fogs installed. When I had it in for some other minor work at a local mechanic (this guy came over from Germany and use to work at a BMW repair station there) he checked mine to see if it was prewired... of course it wasn't!!!
He said he had done the installation before but didn't recommend it. I think he estimated the labor at about 2 1/2 hours... you do the math, the cost climbs up there pretty quickly even with his lower-then-dealer labor rate.
The kit can be purchased from the dealer with all the wires, switches etc.

One thing I did read somewhere, not sure if it is true but it seem reasonable...
If you just hook the fogs up to another light (splice them in) that you run the risk of getting a false error code!!! The onboard computer would read this situation as too much resistance in the circuit. I'm not sure if this is true or if certain older cars don't have to worry about this.

I'm planning to install them myself so the worries about labor cost would be ruled out. I'll just play it safe then - I'll just run a wire direct from the battery to have power for my switch and put a fuse somewhere in between the switch and the battery just in case I mess up and run another wire from the battery for the relay into the fogs. By the way, I only have a 316i so it does not have an OBC.
