First Upgrades

If I have a 1993 325i, everything stock except an awesome stereo. What is the first thing I should upgrade? I have a limited budget, but I want to make it as powerful as I can.... I was thinking of a chip, intake/exhaust..... Suggestions?

That would be a good start. You might consider underdrive pulleys too.

It's a car I'm probably going to be buying from a friend, only he now tells me that he might be keeping the stereo (moving it to his new car). =/

What are some other ways I can increase the power of this car?

I thought of a turbo or supercharger, but if I'm going to dump another $5,500 into this car, I might as well just get an M3. I'm looking at doing probably $1k to $2k in upgrades. What can I get for that?

Or someone suggested upgrading the camshaft... I don't know very much about cars now, but I'm trying to learn. How much of an HP boost would you get from this?
