Question first bmw inputs please

so ive been looking to get into road racing and bought me a 94 318is. as of now its still all together but the little four cylinder has very little power and i cant seem to find very many parts for this car. so im thinking about dropping the four cylinder. my problem is im not sure what other e36 engines or any other engines will fit. if anyone has any suggestions on what i should put back in to replace the four cylinder id appreciate ihe bt. keep in mind i am looking to be able to get around 250 to 300 bhp when im done even if i have to turbo the engine. i do all the work myself and just need a little help on this one since it is my first bmw ive ever owned. any advice is highly appreciated and valued.

i have e36 99 mod 316 it has 100 hp to start with and the 318 has the same motor but with 125hp only because of a chip. with computer programming and turbo/supercharger combination larger exhaust you should be able to pull enough torque out of the 1.9l motor for getting out of corners and the turbo should let it rev all way i have seen the combo work well with around 1500 to 2000 plus hp (boat motors)

All you need to know is that the chassis is no different to one with a straight-six or larger !!!

you would be suprised. you dont really need to do much to make the m42 sing.
1. lightweight flywheel
2. exhaust
3. intake
4. dinan chip
with all of those you should be pulling about 140hp with those small mods.
but in terms of a swap anything will fit from any e36. from the m3 to a 325is engine.

umm i know that the 325 tranny will fit but im not exactly sure about the 328 or m3 tranny. im pretty sure they will all fit because its the same exact chassis with any e36. no matter what it is. 318 to m3 it SHOULD fit without any mods.

If you do M3 then you must swap engine, tranny, dme, wiring harness, driveshaft, cluster, exhaust, rear axles and differential...Its a fun swap and not that bad...I love mine!
But honestly I do suggest doing the suspension (coilovers) first because I did engine first and as you can see in my sig (before coilovers) had alot of roll and its hard to tap out full potential of power with loose suspension, car is amaaazing now that I have coilovers to handle the power thru turns.

///Mpowered 318is 5speed (95 m3 swap)..Bavauto short shifter..borla..sways..3.23lsd..tms chip..staggered dsII's...fk coilovers
