Filler Door Security Pin Stuck

On my '98 328i, the gas tank door security pin is stuck in the "unlocked" position. I couldn't find anything about it in the Bentley manual. Can someone tell me how to free it up, or how to replace it?

I had a similar problem, but it was on my 92 235i...
the pin might seem stuck when actually the elecrtronic wiring to it is disconnected. So... peel back the passengser side trunk mat right behind the gas tank, and see if the connector is still hooked up. There should be a pull cable that is actually connected to the wire to act as a quick disconnect for it. Maybe something snagged it and it came off. Thats it. ..
