A few questions about my 88 325

[1988Bimmer]

First off this is my first BMW. I just bought a 1988 325 rust free with 110K original miles. So far I love the car but it has set for a while hence the mileage.

First question I am going to replace the shocks and struts. The shocks are an easy one, but the struts are kinda confusing. I am used to replacing the whole strut as a unit but every where I search all I find is the gas tubes. Is this all I need to replace or is there more pieces that need to be changed along with them, and any suggestion on brands.

Second question is, for having a 6 cylinder it is very sluggish on the bottom end, any suggestions to what might fix that.

So far I have replaced the brakes/rotors, water pump with timing belt, all new hoses, and battery.

Check all the intake parts for small cracks; the leaks confuse the engine computer at idle.
