a few problems i have

I hope some one can help me,there is a few problems i have with my 1999 318ti compact.

First of it does'nt idle properly hot or cold,have read about cleaning the idle speed control valve and the throttle position sensor.

Secondly there's a rattle/tapetting when i reach 3000rpm in any gear and i've read that there's a unit on the inlet manifold called a disa which can cause this problem.

I would be very greatfull if any one can help.

yeah it's a e36 with the m44 engine.

hi there,firstly try cleaning the idle valve before you do anything else and see how that goes.if that doesnt work let me know.by the the idle valve is located under the inlet manifold which needs to come off.it wont be the throttle position sensor.

yep done that at the weekend,cleaned everything i could think of and checked the disa aswell and it all seems to be fine mate.

hey i had the same problem on my 98 318i. i replaced my icv and problem was solved!

alan hi sometimes cleaning the idle valve dosent mean the problem would be solved it could be faulty valve.

do you have an aftermarket headset?
i had the exact same problem with the rattling noise and approx 3000rpm in any gear and after a painstaking search i realised the CD spinning inside the headset was vibrating and making the noise...hope it helps
