Oh man, let me try to picture an E36 dash in my head. It's been a while. For one, you will have to remove the glovebox also. If I remember correctly, the E36 has a couple bolts/nuts on both sides of the dash (behind the knee bolster on the driver's side and behind the glovebox on the passenger). If you could get me a digital photo of the dash with what you have removed, I could probably be a little more specific.
