I just bought a 97 328i and it is my first BMW any way
when I got it home I noticed one of the fan blades is broken off
can I run like that for a while or will it cause more damage
also anyone know why my top would want to close on its own
I shut the info center off and it quit doing it at least for today
thanks

Hey! Charliedana! You should replace that fan right away before another piece breaks off, you don't want to risk damaging the radiator.........
johnny,
This was the best price I found @ $23.50 , followed by the Bimmerzone price...... @ $30.71 Your Parts Search Returned 1 Part(s)
like said before you need to replace the fan. The fan is balanced and missing a blade throws it out of balance and having it spin unbalanced will ruin your fan clutch. You will need a thin 22mm wrench and a fan holder tool or a large screw driver to remove and install it.
replace the fan clutch also, i had the same problem and my fan clutch was bad, which cause the fanblades to move back and fourth while turning, which resulted in the blades hitting the top of the thermostat housing and breaking a few and the chipping the others.
