Factory Stereo radio not tuning stations in well. Any suggestions?
Hello Bimmer fans,
I have a 94 325i with the 10 speaker am-fm cassette with separate amp and 6 disc changer. Lately, the radio seems to have trouble picking up signals. First noticed this on the AM stations, now it's happening on FM. It can't be because the stations' signals are weak, I live across the river from NY and all these stations are powerful.
Anyone have ideas on how this can be fixed? Could my antenna wiring be loose, or is it time to look for a new head unit? Any suggestions on one of those?
The antenna is built into the defroster grid on the back window. There is an amplifier on the antenna itself that could be going. Not sure where it's located, maybe someone else could help.

hmm, hope is not the antenna booster cause the stealer here quoted me at $300 just for that and the antenna cable for $118. You can either go to a used parts place or online store. Maybe ebay too!! if not you coud buy a satellite ready deck or get an adapter for an ipod.
don't just check the antenna wire but check the wire that has amp stamped on it. that is for the antenna. does anyone know if the antenna amp can be used w/ an aftermarket HU? I have an alpine HU and have always wondered this. eventhough i haven't listen to any fm or am lately. satellite is the way. that install was a pain.
Yeah the E36 OEM factory radio have known to give tremendous problems overtime. If you cannot fix it yourself, then I wouldn't recommend paying money to fix it. It would be alot cheaper to get an aftermarket that will be better or like cruzin says install Sirius (XM sucks) and you'll be better off.
