hey guys im looking into buying a new muffler (one that gives me some sound) for my car, and i need to know what size inlet to get? Is my car stock 2.25 or 2.5 Also if its 2.25 could a 2.5 inlet muffler be welded on there, or would i have to get 2.5 piping fromthe cat back for this muffler to work! thanks for the help!
Go out to your 318 (it is a 318, right?) and measure it.
If you get a muffler with a bigger inlet, that is OK.
Take it to a muffler shop and they will make it fit.

thanks dude, thats what i figured but i didnt know if it was the same for all bmws, but you say take it to a muffler shop and they will make it fit how do they do that? just an adapter or what? or just by welding?
thats the other option but the money there... is rather spendy.... but you get what you pay for, are you talking like some catback? its hard to find catback for a 318 too! but if you can help that would be great! thanks!
i was looking at mufflers like this... these are just off ebay and are examples! but these two would give me sound right? like modified exhuast sound.... but of course no HP gain!

They will make it fit with an adapter. If you are going for one of the two you posted from eBay, do the first one. It will give you the M3 look. But it might reqire some cutting of the bumper skirt.
yeah i was looking at the top one too! but it says itll give my car a high pitch noise like a porshce or ferrari... i dont really want that sound from it waht do you guys say...
actaully i just found this one too! i kind of like the dual tips that curl up! Im just realy afraid of buying a muffler that sounds like a little ricer honda going down the road you know what i mean? Can you tell by looking at a muffler if it will deliver that sound? Cuz if this one looks like itll do that! i dont want it!
There's really no way to tell unless you have heard one in person. it very well could sound like a can of bees, or it could sound deep. Since we're talking about 1.8, the odds of bees are high.

so el presidinte would buying a catback exhuast system from like bmpdesign be a better choice, and pretty much eliminate my chances of getting a can of bees..
hey what about this exhuast its just for my car.... it looks stock.... but will it change the sound of my car at all or not? i want kind of loud deep sporty you know! also what are the HP gians from this!
Any of those pep boys style mufflers are gonna give you that sound. If its cheap its gonna sound cheap.
