Exhaust Tips

Anyone ever buy exhaust tips and install them? Do they just slide on? I was looking at the ones from bavauto.com and there aren't any instructions/manual or anything. Any help would be appreciated.

They look the nicest when they are welded to the muffler!

Does that mean I have to weld them? Are there any alternatives to welding?

There are end tips that can be bolted at the original tip, but I'm not sure if the bavauto ones can be fitted at this way.

In a local auto parts shop, I guess. At least, here in my neighbour they are available, but you can nothing with that.......

My 2 cents: ask it in your local parts shop!

you can pick up a pipe cover from autozone, walmart, pepboys, kragen, advance, bumper to bumper, o'reilys, and whatever other chain im forgettting. Prices range from 5-25 depending on size and style. The are secured in place with a set screw.

I went to autozone and they have a bunch of chrome exhaust tips, no pipe covers, they all say "weld on design" but have screws in them ... do i have to weld them on or can i just screw them in like the pipe cover?

i assume you can just screw them on

I helped my stepbrother do it to his ti. It is best to wel it on, but the screws work fine.

Yeah, it looks I'm just gonna screw them on ... I don't really have any welding experience.

But where would I find the specifications for a 1998 328i. I mean the size of the muffler ... should i just use a ruler or is there an easier way.

Also, do i just screw them right into the muffler ... why does that sound like a bad idea?

They don't have to screw into the muffler, but rather the friction created by tightening the screw around the muffler hold it in place.

Now, if you can drill mounting holes then it would be much more secure.

I think the size if 2.5 inches.
