Exhaust Noise

HI

Does anyone know what the noise in the exhaust can be. I have had it checked by 2 diffrent mechanics who cant find any fault in the exhaust. It blows alot when i go over 50.

The model is 1995 316i

Any suggestions will be much appeciated

Well what kind of noise is it?

well many things contribute to engine noise through your exhuast,,,
starting your engine will often cause it to make loud noises...
how loud is loud? ask the EPA...(Australian)
Buy the sounds of things starting from basics you have a WOT problem to much to much power for your low density exhaust system.
Start from Idle...
Cool everythings cool?
let it warm up to operating temp...
Any changes with the note? there should be!!!!
engines resonate at different frequencies..
resonate is to be a good thing but watch for the leaning of the fuel as it will force the oil to burn and dry your moving pistions out of oil lubricant../
check for leaks in manifolds behind your firewall, out of your collectors,
HEY have you done any mods to your engine ??? Intake exhaust??? BMW ??? they aint stupid they make cars.. Keep it simple stupids loud noises more bang for bucks lol..
Good to here that some one is trying to keep it down in these rooms and what ever happened to the 5 series twin stianless exhaust for my 528i 1985 2.8l sohc ???? hows the sound?? ask me haha

AK1: what does the noise sound like and when does it happen specifically? does it sound like its coming from front (near engine), bottom (under the car), or back at the muffler.

yeah , i was thinking maybe the cat has maybe blown out, do you notice an excess of pollution coming out of the exhaust? a "blowing" noise is pretty hard to imagine for any armchair mechanic. typically the noises from exhaust are like a loud noise that is in relation to say a hole in the exhaust, but even then youll notice a decrease in perfomance.

im a bit stumped by the explaination of the thread.

Yeah sounds like leaky manifold gasket or coupling flange leak .?
bit hard to solve being blind ... listen more closely from start up .
maybe you could listen through a flexible hose to get a little closer to the noise and its location ? good luck
