Yo bimmer lovers,

Anyone knows whats the lifetime of a stock rear muffler? (Generally for BMWs).. i've been told a few opnions that, it lasts for 100,000KMs - 150,000KMs..

Anyways to check if the stock muffler is old, and needs to be replaced? any ways to pin-point any fault on it?

Thank you!!!

depends on where you live.. if you get snow then it will last a lot shorter. if its dry and sunny most of the time it will last longer.

there really is no way to really gauge lifetime of such a part

i dont see why not. the only perfomance problems that an exhaust system would have (not including the cats) would be holes or broken weilds. other than that, im sure all is good

holes or broken wields...

i see.. have you heard of the muffler going empty of fibre?.. (the materials used/packed inside of a muffler)... <-- this is what ppl claim that makes an exhausts considered old and need2 be replaced...

Yes, thats I've always know to happen when an exhaust gets "old". My Explorer is starting to lose some of its muffling ability and its a '96. I would think a '92 would need it replaced- based on the older e36s I have heard.

really , because i havent seen it happen on a bimmer yet (well here in canada) the only one i have seen it on was on a e21.
maybe in warmer climates it could happen quicker than a hole or weild
