Hey guys, I just bought a 96 318is about 2 weeks ago. The last owner put a pretty ricey exhaust on it and I want to change it. I want something that is pretty quiet that growls a little bit when you get on it, but doesn't make it sound like a bee in a coffee can. I don't know if I can keep it from sounding like a 4 cylinder though, so otherwise I will go with something silent that won't restrict HP and gas mileage.

Not looking to spend a whole lot, prolly just get a muffler, not a catback or anything. anywhere from $50 to $150 if it would sound really good and not ricey. How does the stock exhaust on a 318is sound? Is it silent or does it still have some throatiness to it? I haven't really listened to one, but a buddy of mine throught I should get one that sounded like a tuned Audi.

A 318 exhaust system actually sounds really nice to me atleast similar to the way you described it.

So the stock exhaust has some growl to it when you get on it? Is there a good place to pick up a stock muffler for cheap? I wouldn't mind it sounding like an M3 either

I'm assuming that a 4 cylinder car won't sound like an m3, but I know that the stromung 318 exhaust sounds nice. You could try just a magnaflow muffler on your car, should sound nice.
