Exaust smell... - BMW Forum

Sometimes (key word) when standing still/ideling I can smell the exaust fumes, im sure its not just pure fuel so it wouldnt be from any lines leading to the engine (i recently replaced the fuel filter) and the car had recently had a bmw inspection and they said the exaust was all good. Do u have any idea why this could be happening? I can also sometimes smell it when i turn the car off and walk outside! But this is not always, kinda strange!

no leaks i take it? get in the engine bay and see if it wet around where the fuel filter is.. secondly if your having this issue when at a stand still , i would let the car idle.. get out and inspect where you smell it the most.. maybe its your exhaust and you cats are starting to go.

id check the exhaust gasket where the headers connect to the down pipes... mine was an old gasket and had a leak not too long ago and since you are idleing for somereason it seems to leak into the cabin more...

alright thnx, ill do that. but can i see it from underneath the car?
