EVAP system assistance? - BMW Forum

On a 97 BMW 328i, our tech has scanned for fault codes and received a code 252 (Incorrect purge flow) but the purge valve holds vacuum and another code 254 Leak detected (large leak). Anyone had experience with this condition?

Are canisters know to have hairline cracks that would be difficult to spot?

well code 252 is very uncommon, all i can think of is that maybe you have a problem with one of the hoses as opposed to the possible problem with the purge valve. if there is a problem with the purge valve than it could be that its stuck short or open, restricting flow but still working. im sorry i cant help you any further because i havent really tackled anything like that yet however i have has some purge valve experience with e30's.

Thanks, I appreciate your feedback. Unfortunately we need an inert smoke injection machine to test for leaks in the hoses of the EVAP system which we don't have. We'll need to spend more time looking at it.
