Euro Cams

Does any one know if european cams are more aggressive for the e36 318is, i know they were more aggressiver in earlier bmws, but not sure if they are for the e36's

considering the 318is has forged pistons and cams they can take a hell of a beating. Upgrade your ignition coils and spark wires because thats where theres major power loss.

Theres not much you can do to a m42 engine other than convert it to a e30 m3 engine or a 6 cyl swap.

You could use some other cams from Dr. Schrick, then you'll get the best cams your engine can get.. if your considering changing cams, I would do that

what do you mean convert it to an e30 m3, do you mean boring it out, do the throttle bodies(manifold) fit on the m42???

Not exactly...

If you semi-know what you are doing it'll probably take a whole weekend from opening the hood to having the engine on a stand. Theres a lot of things to consider like draining fluid and A/C discharge type stuff. Putting it back together is a whole other beast too.. plus you'll need to consider equipment. If you're doing it on your own you'll need a hoist, stand, hand tools, torque wrench, and various other things that could easily top $1000 just in tools if you are using your own stuff.

Plus the fact that an E30 M3, if you can find one, is very expensive. I don't think they made many E30 M3's as opposed to the E36 M3. You would also need the appropriate ECU to go with it and probably a different clutch set-up.
