ok so my buddy has a 1994 320i it runs about 130mph top end......and we were wondering if th 3.0 out of a 1995 330i will bolt in.....he's looking to get about 150-160 mph top end out of it.......is there a easier way than swapping in a bigger engine a regearing the rear?........I assume we'd need the ECU from the 330i but what else....will it bolt to his tranny....is th flywheel the same?.....thanks in advance for the help guys
No such thing as a '95 330i. But if you droped an S52 out of a 96-99 M3, you could easily make those speeds. Convert that back OBDII, open up the breathing, and remap the software, and you'd be set.
I don't know European BMW's, but if the 320i is a 4 cylinder, then you run into a bit mroe problems than just a 6 cylinder six cylinder swap. Gotta redo a lot more stuff and relocate, as well as worry about engine mounts. It would probably be a more cost effective method to sell the 320i in favor of a 6 cylinder BMW.
Once again all that is assuming the 320i is a 4 cylinder.

no the 320i is a 6 cyl....it has a 2.0l it's the 318 and 316 that are 4 cyl........and as far as a330i goes thats what it says on the back of it...i'm not 100% on the year as it's in the junkyard.....and the underhood sticker says it's a 3.0L and looks just like every other BMW 6 cyl i've evr seen....but i am new to the BMW world so I could have been mistaken.....i'll try to get a pic when we go back.......
ok i found some facts for the engine on the net....
Two engines are available; both are inline six-cylinder engines. As the nomenclature indicates, 325 models get a 2.5-liter engine, while 330 models get a 3.0-liter engine. Wagons are only available with the 2.5-liter engine; sedan, coupe, and convertible are available with either engine.
The 184-horsepower 2.5-liter engine is used in the 325i sedan ($27,100); 325i sport wagon ($29,500); 325Ci coupe ($29,100); 325Ci convertible ($36,100).
The 225-horsepower 3.0-liter engine is used in the 330i sedan ($33,990); 330Ci coupe ($34,990); and 330Ci convertible ($42,400). In addition to the increased power, 330 models come with more standard equipment and design upgrades. One example: 17-inch wheels with V-rated tires in place of the 325's standard 16-inch wheels with H-rated tires.
^^ buddy, up there you are talking about e46, that is from year 2000+, we are e36, 92-98.. and the e36 325i(2.5 liter, hence the 3 25) has 189HP, and that goes up to 95. 96-98 they dont make the 325, they make the 328(2.8 L, again, 3 28) and that has 195HP i think but loaded w/torque 220
It can fit but it could be a headache. It would be much easier on you to get a 6cly engine from a 92-99 BMW. If you want those speeds mentioned above, then look for the engine from the M3 and do the mods listed above.
well see i'd have gone with the M3 engine but those never stay in the yards very long and when you do find one they want a whole bunch of money for them....the 330 engine is only 500 euro and the m3 engines run any where from 1500-2000 euro.....maybe we should just go with the 2.8 and some sorta supercharger.......and one got hat set-up?......
