Electrical Problems

Alas, I have been struck with my first problem since buying the car. The stereo unit seems to be really dark when I start my car sometimes. Mainly the area where it shows what the current track/cd is playing. It'll be really dark, like when you set all your instrument brightness down, and changing the intstrument brightness via the dial won't change it. If I flip it on or off a few times/restart my car sometimes it fixes it. Any ideas?

the rheostat in the deck may be not functioning properly, i believe all the interior lights are on the rheostat (dimmer) if it is not changing with the dimmer one of two things could possibly be wrong, one-the aforementioned issue or two-the deck just simply might be gooing south.
