I have a 1992 e36 318is with 142000 miles and in the past year I’ve been having problems with my electrical system. My car keeps dying and not turning on, but one of the things that it does before it dies is that the odometer stops counting the miles and freezes there are also instances when the odometer does not even turn on. So, I took it in to a BMW dealership in CA to get tuned up and checked, and they told me that all I needed to do was to change the battery and the alternator which I had previously done a year an a half earlier. So I agreed to change the alternator from a Valeo to a new factory bosh alternator and battery, which was somewhat expensive. I drove it for three weeks and once again my car died on me, but this time the dealership covered it and they got me another alternator no charge. I still have the car but I purchased a new 05 Tacoma TRD because I must commute 80 miles a day for work and I need a reliable car. However, I don’t want to sell my car because this was the first car that I bough fresh out of high school and I love it but the symptoms keep happening when I turn it on. Have any of you experience any failures as such? What can I do?
