Electrical Problems

Hello,

I just got a good deal on a 92 BMW 325 with only 125000 KM. There are some problems leaking oil and some cooland that I asked the mechanic to fix.

That is not my problem though. there are some electrical problems that my mechanic does not now how to fix it.

Even when I close all the doors and even if I take the key out of the ignition the beeping wouldn't stop. Also the batery seems to be drained.

If I listen closely to the onboatd AC/Heating pannel there a little motor noise that wouldn't come off even with the key out of the ignition. This seems to drain the battery.

The jerk that had the car before had a stereo system and he actualy ripped off the whires from the player and in the trunk there the amplifyer is.

I am not intereswted yet in making the stereo work but to get read of the anoying noice.

Also the computer on the right pannel does have the lights behind the buttons lit, but the screen does not show anything. I checked the whires and they seem to be connected in the back.

What do you suggest. I am new to this car but I am eager to learn more.

Hi, One of your problems I have had in the past.

When I bought my 93 318is, there was a constant Crackling noise that would never go away... even when you pull out the key. Plus the previous owner mentioned that he bought new battery because his old one died a few times.

The fix for me was to remove the LOWER dash cover under the steering wheel and "unplug" one of three wires conected to a small speaker. This fixed the noise problem.

After I ran a diag test on the car... error message led me towards voltage regulator problem... so I replaced. (Voltage Regulator cost $52.00 plus one hour to install)

No problems since...

I am really starting to enjoy this forum, as I think I am going to be on it a lot. I have never own a BMW before but I hopfully can join the big familly you guys have here...

Any other help on the other problems will be much appreciated.

I have to get this car on the road so I can enjoy the driving. Currently the mechanic is replacing the gaskets and if I can fix the noise problem like I have been thought I will be out there driving it!...

Make sure where the wires were ripped out that there are no exposed wires that are either touching each other or touching metal....could be causing a short and killing the battery???

No problem... I'm pretty new to the forum to... plus this is my first BMW as well. Used but paid for...

I have learned alot from these BMW guru's... and have made of list of items to upgrade and replace over the next few months.
