Electrical Problem ?

I have 1997 328i the odometer will work then bottom of numbers disappear it seems to be gone more than not lately .The multifuncional display unit looks like stick people nothing readable but the colon between hour n minute display! Were should I start units bad or electrical issue?

replace the resistors in the back of the cluster...sounds like they are going bad

If the does fail its possible to replace them. Used ones are available and you can have the mileage of the cluster reset. The clusters do fail, which not a lot of people understand which can create some issues when selling comes up.
