Electrical A/C Problem

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and have found it very helpful. I've got a new-to-me '97 328ic and have some problems with the A/C. it turns itself off and on repeatedly. when its on, the A/C works fine, and the controls work fine, which makes me think its electrical. when its off, the whole climate control unit thingie is off, none of the buttons work, including the fan, defrost, etc. i've noticed that it tends to turn off when i need it most (during the day when its hot). at night, it usually works fine. any ideas? if nothing else, some tips so i don't get ripped off at the dealer if i end up having them fix it would be helpful. thanks!

Sounds like the problem you are describing is a common one.... remedies can be found on this thread...

My 1996 328i is a pleasure to drive, but is beginning to show signs of its age, with fading radio LEDs, exterior door handle sticking, and rear lock not engaging in the cold. My CC system is acting up as described in these threads, and I'm going to try the fix mentioned. Just wanted to say thank you to all contributors, as I feel this is one of the best forums on the Web.

Will post some photos someday, everyone cannot believe it is a 96. Great car and even better owners. Later all!
