What's the deal with these things. I always see that electric turbo on ebay and it just looks like a scam, but this supercharger looks almost legit. I would never consider on of these but does anyone have any experience with these?

Actually, That one looks like it just might work!
I've seen the ones you are talking about. Good Lord what crap people are trying to sell.
But this one looks legit.
But the price... You might as well go for the real thing. I do not take chances with $1600+.
yeah the price made me think it might be true, but i would rather have the real thing.

Okay now look at the freakin price? that much for roughly 15-20hp...no fuel management etc. AND ONLY FOR A DURATION OF 15 SECONDS.....stay away! very bad...shoooo shooooo!
that is ghey... if any of you buy that I will laugh.. Come on guys, you should know enough by now to know that thing is a scam and is sooo not worth the Charmin Extra I wipe my ass with.... It's a joke right??? ever heard of the saying, "You get what you pay for" ?? cause this thing compared to the forced induction applications sold for these cars is an extremely cheap remake... I mean, 15 seconds, 18hp?, Electricity blah blah blah joke?? wheres the dyno'd proof, wheres the garuntee it is worth what you are paying for??? buy nitrous, $500, get an extra 75 - 100hp INSTANT shot, and you get like a good 12-15 runs out of one bottle... END..
Am I right, or am I right??

Sorry to break it to you, but you really don't know what you're talking about.
First of all, this system does work. It is a big step in the direction of electric supercharging. This puts out a lot of boost at very low RPM, more than any other turbo or supercharger could at very low engine speeds.
Second, they do not say it adds 18hp. That's how much horsepower the motors are. This would probably give you gains of more like 40hp and loads more torque if tuned right.
This supercharger is not a scam. however, it is far from cost effective. Much more power and efficiency can be had with conventional fi systems. But, like I said, it is a big step in the direction of making electric supercharging a viable option.
Nick G, before you go any farther at saying that Contraption is worth the ENORMOUS $1,600.00, and that it is a big leap towards our future of performance parts, I think you need to think hard and long about it. We could post a poll in every forum you can think of, asking someone if they would rather have a real belt driven S/C, or a T/C for a few $ more, or this Peice of Homemade junk that looks like crap, and gives you boost for a whopping 15 seconds, before you have to recharge the dumb thing for 20 minutes....... GIVE ME A BREAKK!!!!!
PS - WHO gives a crap about hp and TQ at 1,500RPM.. REAL HP/TQ makes a difference when it is midrange/Hi end..
and again, where are some real DYNO charts to prove the gains even.... I DON"T SEE THEM......
on another note, if you are going to challenge my knowledge on the subject of automobile mechanics and engineering, then we can do so anytime in another place than this.. I Think you need to check your comments at the door before you talk to people like that..

No ones saying that this POS doesn't do anything at all. All we are saying is that for the cost there is no reason to buy it at all. Maybe if it was $200 you might want to get it for drag stuff, but only if it added like 40hp+. Sure it's a step in the right direction for electric super chargers, however, it still doesn't hold a candle to any conventional super or turbo charger wich is what that POS is trying to compete with. Its POS simply because of the price. It's way too expensive for what you get, that's why we say it's crap. Not because the idea is crap, or that it's not an improvement, it's just too expensive. It would be like if the modle T (yes one of the first cars) was invented yesterday. Well sure it would have been a great car 100 years ago but now it would be crap. This thing would have been great in the 70's before turbos were put into production cars. It just has 30 years of catching up to do.
actually, the so called "electric" superchargers and turbos are bilge pumps for boats usually...the scam is so stupid tho...anyone who is any kind of smart wouldn't even look at them

exactly because the price is worth the gain. if it was $20 why not?
