e46 automatic shifter knob on e36?

Anybody know if the automatic shifter knob from a 99 323i will work on my 97 318i?

well mine is wearing out becasue its there leather/vinyl kind and i found a couple on ebay for cheap that are woodgrain which i really want, but they are both from e46's... and i dont really feel like spending 100+ for one from bavauto

i know all manual knobs for all bimmers are universal

maybe the same is true for auto too?

i put a manual shift knob in my auto 318i...didnt have the button, but it never worked on my 318 before so it didnt make a difference

most of the shift knobs ive seen are universal, they have an opening, which if too big, they come with inserts to fit ur car

hmm, I have only really seen that for manual shift knobs, not saying you are wrong at all, because I don't know myself. I just figured that OEM shift knobs would not be universal.
