E36 trans problems nedd help - BMW Forum

I recently bought a beautiful 1993 325IS with a 5 speed manual trans. The car has a few issues but needed to replace my custom 325 sedan with an auto that was recently totaled. This is my first manual BMW. I know it had problems when I bought it. The trans slips out of first gear about half the time. have been told the linkage is wrong and the trans is bad. There is no other problems with any gear and no grinding between gears. any ideas???

so under acceleration it pops out of 1st? or does it not want to stay in all the time?

Before calling the transmission bad, I would definitely look into refurbishing the linkage.

only pops out of first under hard acceleration at high rpm. if I am easy it and shift around 3500 to 4000 it does not pop out of gear. also I am not getting any strange noises from the trans
