Apart from the touring and the compacts, are all e36 bodys the same, i mean the shell, for example is a 91 318 the same as a 95 m3?. Are there any changes that have been made over the years?
The bodies coup and sedan models are virtually identical. There are minor differences, such as the windows and how they fit in the door, the turn lightsd, and the tailights.
As long as the body style is the same, the shell is same for all years (92-98 sedans would look exactly the same, save for cosmetic updates.

could always think of a z3...they are a little different...In reality, the Coupes are also a little shorter in height I think...

so the rear lights are all the same as well? because sometimes i look at the back of beemers and they dont look very nice but other times they look very nice. I know the m3`s have clear lights at the back at the top and red at the bottom, but is the actual physical size of the lights the same for all models?
nope...all 2 door e36 bimmers have the same lights (except for the 318ti compact)
separately, all 4 door e36 bimmers have the same shape lights.
The different color of the plastics vary all over the place as in the case of the M3 and then with Euro models and aftermarket lights (all clear and smoked).
The coupe lights are a little more flat and sleek looking than the 4 door lights...the 318ti lights are compact kinda like the car itself, smaller...

The 4 door is only about 3 inches longer than the coupe...it seems a lot of people think the tails on some are ugly...I only think the 318ti compact lights are a little out of place, other than that, the tails look good in my opinion (some could use some different colors though, take the yellow out)
