Good news for E36 owners with broken seatbacks. Jeff Caplan owner of Odometergears.com has produced replacement nylon gears for the E36 electric seatback gearbox, to fix the most common failure of the E36 seat, the nylon seatback drive gear. So instead of replacing the entire seat frame (as BMW would have you do...) you can just replace the drive gear and be back in business. The website link is
http://www.odometergears.com or his phone number is 757-595-0011 and he's located in Newport News, VA. He has the plastic stamping machine in his garage and makes hard to find gears for VDO odometers and now the BMW E36 seat gearbox. The gears are different between the driver's side and the passenger side, so make sure you order the correct side. They are $40 apiece.
