e36 headlights upgrade to xenon

hello everyone,

i signed up here to learn more things about my e36. as an american lives in finland, i could not get much help with the locals due the language problems. anyway, hopefully the english speaking site will be able to shed some lights into my own diy projects on my recently acquired e36.

its an old clunker but the engine runs quite clean. it is a 325 model year 92 and i would like to change the headlights to xenon.

i noticed a couple of kits on ebay. can anyone suggest me what i should do? should i buy a complete kit or just a lite bulb and plug straight in? if it is just a lite bulb replacement, what about the voltage in the fuse box?

many thanks for your expertise.

looking forward to your replies.

yours,

the bimmer freak

Is your E36 a euro or american model?

Are the headlights just normal or do they look like they have parabolic lenses/projector lenses in them?

If they do have projector lenses in them already, then what you need is a xenon ballast, igniter, and bulb set. You can buy a kit like this from jlevisw.com for cheap.

If they do not have projector lenses in them already, then you need to buy P36 projectors plus the xenon kit from jlevisw.com.

Installation is pretty simple either way you go.

hi,
its the euro model. the headlites are just normal lenses. so i guess i will follow your advice to get the P36 projector and then the xenon kit. but what about the voltage? do i still need to change the fuse in the fuse box to a larger amp?

I think they're supposed to be 15 amps.

Your best option would be a set of our Projector36 headlights which are complete headlight replacements that swap out your stock reflector based halogens for projector based xenons and built in angel eyes.

Here is the product page for more information:

Projector36

Those are the headlights you can see on the left in my signature on my M3.

I modified them in that I only have one ring turned on in either headlight, but you get the idea.

I have the Projector36's too. Havent done HID's yet, but I plan on it this summer. Just make sure they are glass and not plastic lenses because ive heard the plastic can melt.

Actually we recommend the plastic lenses over the glass. The plastic is made for headlights and will not melt, not to mention HIDs run at less temperature output and power draw than halogens.

The plastic will better withstand the elements and not crack upon impact. They are also easy and cheap to replace if you ever get chips.
