E36 electric door locks broken

Anyone have experience in trouble shooting E36 electric door locks. None of the doors or trunk will activate the electric locking system. Any trouble shooting ideas? Is there an electronic "Controller" somewhere in the body that "talks" to all the doors and trunk?
THANKS.

This was happening to my car when I first got it. The previous owner thought it was the the security system. Everything started working when I repaired the DME (engine control computer) harness. It was badly melted. I could only tell by tearing into the relay pod cluster and then into that side of the harness where everything was melted. Additionally, this fixed many problems like: in dash computer, gauges function, flashers, fuel pump, acceleration, and multiple fuse poping.
