E36, Control Unit Power Supply Question - BMW Forum

Hey guys, Noobie here with a question about an error code.

My airbag light came on I was told the steering wheel airbag needed replacing by the stealership. After replacing the airbag the light was turned off and came back on. Now it is saying "Control Unit-Power Supply". Does anyone know what this means? I followed correct procedure for steering wheel airbag replacement and this code was not coming up when they checked the light the first time. Could something have tripped this light during the replacement process? Also can this light be turned off without the diagnostic module? Thanks for your help.

it ususally comes on whenever the battery has been disconnected for a period of time, clear it and see what happens, if it comes back let us know, if not, enjoy =]

you'll need a code reader to clear the code, autozone does it for free

Thanks Shahab, You would think that the BMW Tech I took it too would have known that. I will take it to the local Auto Zone and have them reset. Thanks again

Well, Autozone says they only do the code check for cars 96 and up. I guess I am out of luck since my E36 is a 95. How much is the code reader? Cheaper then what the stealership is going to charge me for the diagnostic?

Well, I tried taking the bulb out of the dash. And would you believe it without the bulb the light is still illuminated. So I figured I am going to ask the dealership to just turn the light off and insist that they not charge me for the diagnostic.
